Welcome to BSA Troop 101 First Year Program (FYP)
The FYP is designed for new Scouts to experience and learn the basics of camping, the outdoors, and the scouting program, and to BE PREPARED to join and lead their future Scout patrols.
The First Year Program provides each Scout an opportunity to complete the requirements for Tenderfoot, Second Class and First Class ranks. Some Scouts will achieve this; others may not. But Scouting is not about advancement, that is only a method. Scouting has three Aims or goals:
(1) Character development,
(2) Citizenship training, and
(3) Personal Fitness: Mental, Physical, and Emotional.
You can see from these goals that Scouting is different than sports programs or most other after-school activities. We strive to grow Scouts who can and will make a positive constribution in their family, in their community, and in our nation throughout their life. We challenge them to learn new skills while having fun and developing personal responsibility, concern for others, teamwork, and leadership.
We will endeavor to use the Methods of Scouting, which are described on the "Scouting Descriptions" page. Click the link above.
